What would your 10-year-old self say about the job you do right now?
“You will work the hardest you ever have, but you are passionate about your trade, love it and it shows!”

What’s the absolute best thing and the absolute pits about your job?
“Food styling: best thing is working on a concept from sketches on paper, into real life whether presented as a still life or moving image. Absolute pits is the admin! But even that’s not too bad.”

Owning a café: best thing is meeting the people and being of service to them and watching them enjoy something you have created. The absolute pits is how rude some people can be and how hard we as owners work to do the best we can and sometimes we do make a mistake. We are only human.”

EAT

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever eaten?
“It would have to be Haggis or Black pudding.”

Is there is food trend that you wish would go away?
“Banting or no carb! Reduce your portion size, exercise and eat less processed foods… It’s rather simple.”

Favourite spot for lunch?
“Depends on the occasion; I love the Rotisserie lunch at Leopards Leap; Sababa on Bree for fresh healthy Mediterranean flavours and Tashas Constantia if I’m looking for healthier alternatives.”

Where is your go-to place to shop for food or ingredients?
“Because I’m not at home much, I find I cook less and less but when I do, I try my best to support the farmers markets on the weekends.”

Favourite ingredient to cook with right now?
“Pork shoulder; I’m experimenting in different cooking methods and yielding interesting results.”

If you were a flavour of ice cream, you would be… (and why?)
“Definitely Salted Caramel! Sweet but contrasting.”

If you had R1000 to spend, where would you go or what would you cook? (and drink)
“High on my list is the Midlands Meander; I’ve heard so much about wonderful hearty home cooks delivering delicious meals using local ingredients. Otherwise it would be Prince Albert, for the same reasons.”

If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life it would be?
“Butternut done any which way!”

Your last supper would be (don’t forget the drinks!)
“This has to be my Mom’s Lasagne or her Caramelised Sweet Potatoes. We all know mom makes the best food ☺ And to finish off with a nightcap, a good double ‘o Jamesons 15 year Whiskey.”
